Singtel Hot Models Grid Girls night1001
The Grid Girl finalists faced very tough competition this year with over 500 ladies – almost double the previous year – signing up to vie for a space on the starting grid this September.
Many of the ladies were personally handpicked by MediaCorp artistes-turned-celebrity scouts Elvin Ng and Rebecca Lim. Previous Grid Girl finalists Shahnaz Nazimuddeen, Christina Loh and Delphine Goh also took on the role of Grid Girl talent scouts to discover girls with potential. Celebrity stylist Fong Fan and photographer Russel Wong also had a hand in the styling and photographing of the ladies.
The search for this year’s Grid Girls began in April and the scouts combed tertiary institutions, popular shopping areas and clubs to find ladies who had the potential to represent SingTel and Singapore at this year’s race. The judges included Carrie Models MD Ms Linda Teo, MediaCorp Publishing MD Ms Jessie Sng, Chief of Multimedia at SingTel, Mr Edward Ying and Director of Consumer Segment Marketing and Marcom at SingTel, Mr Derrick Heng, who whittled the selection down to the final 12.

“The response to this year’s competition has been absolutely fantastic,” said Mr Edward Ying, Chief of Multimedia, SingTel. “We would like to invite the public to meet the top 12 SingTel Grid Girls at our road shows and vote to put their favourites in the top three – we guarantee that this year’s contest is going to be very exciting.”
The top 12 girls this year are the tallest in the history of the SingTel Grid Girls competition with an average height of 1.7m. They also comprise a diverse racial mix – including ladies of Mongolian, Thai and Taiwanese heritage. The ladies will be making appearances at road shows to drum up public support to emerge as the top three Grid Girls of 2011.
They will also compete in some challenges that are in line with this year’s race theme – Fast Is Amazing, and will participate in test-of-speed games such as Fastest SMS Typist and Fastest Lap on the F1 Simulator at the Vivocity roadshow on 14 August. Updates of the girls’ activities as well as photos will also be uploaded on the SingTel Facebook page.
Starting 23 July, members of the public can vote for their favourite girls at www.facebook.com/singtel or via SMS and stand to win a LG Optimus Black mobile phone.
Voting will close on 4 September and the top three SingTel Grid Girls will then be selected. Public votes make up 50 per cent of the final tally. These girls will win cash prizes of $10,000, $5,000 and $3,000 respectively, be at the front of the starting grid on race day, and be featured in a cover shoot for 8 Days magazine in the race weekend issue.
